Fastnet Film Festival is delighted to Announce that Turkish Airlines (THY) has become their official Airline Partner, sponsoring the Best International Short Film entered into competition this year. The winning film will receive a beautiful trophy plus 2 return tickets anywhere on the Turkish Airline Network. With 296 different destinations to choose from, this is an amazing prize.

L-R Hasan Mutlu (General Manager of THY Ireland), Hilary McCarthy (FFF), Alper Kanburoglu (THY), Pauline Cotter (FFF).

The Partnership with Turkish Airlines is a great opportunity for us to align ourselves with a premier airline. I believe this is a very positive connection, not only for FFF but also for Turkish Airlines. The festival has a very diverse international programme, with submissions this year from Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, India, Mexico, USA, Canada, China, Singapore and all over Europe.” Said Hilary McCarthy FFF Vice Chairperson. “We are delighted to partner with Fastnet Film Festival, and with the opportunity to support film and the arts in Ireland.” Said Hasan Mutlu, General Manager of Turkish Airlines Ireland.

Fastnet Film Festival now in it’s 9th year, will run from Wednesday the 24th to Sunday the 28th of May in the seaside village of Schull in West Cork.

Over 5 days at the end of May each year, FFF endeavours to screen every film submitted to competition, and the workshops provide high quality hands on experiences for filmmakers, concentrating on the craft of film, sharing of ideas where industry professionals and students share the same space. There is fun for all, with free family entertainment, from filmmaking, craft and drama workshops, to storytelling and kids cinema club, live music, parties, workshops and roundtable discussions with industry experts.

Distributed Cinema

“Distributed Cinema” is Schull’s very own dedicated server to short films. Anyone with a smartphone, laptop or iPad can access past years submitted films, archived workshops and Q&As, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year in the village of Schull. During the festival, our server is used alongside HD media players, to screen shorts and features, in a number of smaller venues throughout the locality. From a bookshop, to an art gallery, numerous local pubs and restaurants and The Long Island Cinema, to the village hall, and the local hotel, the town with no cinema has more than 10 cinemas. The venue names change to cinema names: ‘The Adelphi’, ‘The Plaza’, ‘The Metropole’ ‘The Savoy’ etc.
